Pluto Jonze- ‘Swingin’ Like I’m Bowie’

Pluto Jonze

As a tribute to his idol David Bowie, psych-pop sensation Pluto Jonze has released the track ‘Swingin’ Like I’m Bowie’. The Australian artist has been around the music scene since 2012 but is looking to expand his audience to across the world, having not released a track for three years, what better time is there to tribute his, and millions of other’s absolute idol? On Bowie, Pluto Jonze commented “Last year sucked, I couldn’t listen to any of his songs without this sadness pinching me. Anyways, I’m over that and can now appreciate with clear eyes how he wanted his art to transcend himself and live on. He pushed the artistic envelope right to the end and this song is a celebration of that intent.”

Obviously there is strong Bowie influences in this track, however the groovy, psych-pop chorus screams Beck’s track ‘Dreams’ at us it in the best way possible. Jonze considers himself to be within the pop genre, but his strong melodies and hooks, often driven by psychedelic production elements and lyrics make his sound stand out from that classic ‘pop’ sound. His pop-punky voice complements the funky guitar throughout the track as well as the more rocky riffs embedded. I’m sure the way he sings “Bowieeeeeeee” with such conviction along with attitude will remain playing round and round in your head for at least the next day.

You can catch Pluto Jonze in the UK at the following dates:

Sun 6 Aug – The Islington, London

Tue 8 Aug – The Islington, London

Wed 23 Aug – The Portland Arms, Cambridge

Mama Moonshine – ‘Sisters’

New track available from January 30th 2015

PrImage

A London based four piece with a love of all things soul, Mama Moonshine are a band tailor made for swaying between funk jams and blues rhythms. This is a group who take in all kinds of influences – from the dusky likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha, to the funk rock stylings of the Black Keys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers – each member has their own unique sound, when moulded together creates a distinct and elevated tone.

Their brand new single ‘Sisters’ is out on January 30th, a heartfelt song about the loss and gain of true friendship. Hauntingly soulful and with smartly lyrics that unspool with a gentle power, the track is a solid example of this band’s class:

Mama Moonshine are clearly a band assured in their own sound, both in the studio and on the stage. Having sold out both The Camden Enterprise and Proud Galleries (Camden Town) they also played to a rapt crowd at the Audiofarm festival 2014, Brunswick in Brighton and Portobello Road, Notting Hill to name a few. Add to that recent radio appearances and a guest slot for vocalist Ruth with Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Band for charity last year, and this band is on the rise in the London Music Scene.

Don’t just take our word for it. There has been interest from cult hit-makers Tune-Yards and Little Dragon, who had some words of encouragement after hearing their new material:

“Had a listen to your music. You have a great voice! Keep writing songs 🙂 and have a blast in the studio!! Lots of luv Yukimi”

‘Sisters’ will be available from online stockists and more from January 30th.

‘CRYING DAYS’ ARE OVER WITH RELEASE OF NEW NYIKA SINGLE

New Single Released 17th January, 2014

NyikaNyika is a soul funk singer songwriter with Bulgarian and Zimbabwean roots. She has a sound which is reminiscent of other soul acts, such as Omar (both artists having studied at WAC). Being a self managed and published artist, Nyika is indie in the truest sense of the word. In addition, this staunchly independent artist also runs her own record label Too Hip Records. This independence allows Nyika to release music that is unfiltered, personal and direct. This personal approach is reflected in new single ‘Crying Days’, which focuses on her childhood.

Nyika is not complacent and continues to grow as an artist. She has already released two albums which have allowed her to work with some of the same collaborators as George Michael, Dusty Springfield and Kylie Minogue. All of the knowledge she has gained from her previous collaborations have helped to shape ‘Crying Days’.

Having performed at London Gay Pride and being labeled as ‘One to watch’ by Tony Blackburn (BBC Radio), momentum is really building for Nyika. Listening to ‘Crying Days’, it’s clear to see why. The track is a triumphant statement about overcoming past strife and how this ultimately strengthens us.  This is all made clear in the chorus, which proudly states ‘My crying days are over’.

This uplifting message is backed by thudding drums, giving the song a real energy and forward propulsion. This energy permeates the entire song and makes for an exciting listen. This backing is built on by soulful piano chords and funk guitar. If you’ve not listened to Nyika before, ‘Crying Days’ is a great introduction to her indie soul funk style.

‘Crying Days’ will be available for purchase from January 17th.
