Impressive electronic rework of Adam & the Ants’ Kings of the Wild Frontier by Johnny Normal (Featuring Marco Pirroni)

Electronic musician Johnny Normal delivers this shiny synth-driven rework of Adam & the Ants’ 1980 classic album Kings of the Wild Frontier.

Reaching number 1 in the UK album chart and spawning three hit singles ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’, ‘Dog Eat Dog’ and ‘Antmusic’, the original Kings of the Wild Frontier has left its legacy on the world.

Johnny Normal’s download only rework celebrates 36 years since the original release, and sees the talented producer recording his own unique versions of all of the songs. The album features double Ivor-Novello Award-Winning Ants songwriter and guitarist Marco Pirroni.

The album project was initially the idea of Adam Ant himself, who liked the style of Johnny’s music.

As Johnny explains: ‘My version of KOTWF is not meant as a copycat album as we could never improve on such a classic, rather an Ant fan’s homage to the fabulously exciting original record by Adam, Marco and co which had such an impact on my life and the lives of millions of the MTV generation.

The project sees Johnny teaming up with close friend and guitarist Psycho Pete and backing vocalist/bass player Izzie voodoo.  Whilst on tour supporting Adam Ant, Johnny and Psycho played several of their own electronic interpretations of Ants songs, performing to crowds of up to 3000 people. The performances were well-received by audience members, cementing the idea for the duo to create their own electronic cover album.

In 2014, the project came to a frightening halt when Johnny Normal was hospitalised in three intensive-care units with a succession of life-threatening illnesses. His life support was turned off twice and he was expected not to survive. Beating the odds, he pulled through, his family requesting that the unfinished album be played whilst he was in his coma, spurring him on to fight death. ‘I have no doubt this provided me with a subconscious link to the outside world and aided my recovery,’ Johnny has stated.

Appealing to both Adam and the Ants fans and electronic music lovers, it’s a record that all kinds of music enthusiasts can get into.

Electrifying self-titled debut album from Belfast rock band, The Irontown Diehards

Belfast band, The Irontown Diehards, deliver this self-titled debut album, a hi-octane rock riff-fest set for release on May 27th.

The Irontown Diehards

Citing Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry and Bon Jovi as influences, The Irontown Diehards are a band that hard rock enthusiasts worldwide need in their iTunes libraries. Making up their sound are belting vocal hooks, speeding rhythms and headbanging riffs that’ll leave your neck toned.

As described by Belfast Metalheads Reunited: ‘they have combined the essential elements to forge a fierce rock sound that is delivered as if they wield a battleaxe’.

A formidable live act, the band match their lively sound with a distinctive image, dressing unconventionally in Victorian worker garb as if they just so happened to stumble out of a time machine into the 21st Century and discover electric guitars. All the members have previously played in top Northern Ireland rock and metal bands including Last Known Addiction, Almighty Fallen, Stormzone, Warcrux and Dead Zebra. Their collective musical experience shows, both in their musicianship and their performance.

‘Fly High’ is the lead single, a soaring ballad with an explosive chorus. It features a cracking guitar solo and culminates into a mighty and epic crescendo.

‘’…there is no doubt that they are bringing something new and interesting to a Northern Ireland scene in which it can sometimes be difficult to find’’ write Planet Mosh.

The album will be available for pre-order shortly, ready for its release on May 27th.

The Breaking Pattern revitalise emo rock on spectacular new album, ‘There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins’

The face of the Phoenix emo revival movement’ – The Huffington Post

Have a bite of these guys!

Arizona indie rock group, The Breaking Pattern, are bringing a fresh new sound to the emo scene on their debut album There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins. Anthemic vocals and reverb-soaked guitars make for a euphoric and equally lovelorn summery sound.

The band cite emo and pop-punk acts such as Real Friends, The Wonder Years, Man Overboard and The Hotelier as influences. Fellow Arizona indie rockers Lydia have offered the band much support, their guitarist Justin Camacho even co-writing songs with the band in the past.

The album lyrically tackles the hurdles of a failing relationship. The band’s frontman explains: ‘The album is somewhat of a break-up album, chronicling the various stages of a doomed relationship from the moments leading up to the split until the resolution and recovery. I say “somewhat” because it is not a concept album. The songs do not tell one specific story, but are a compilation of personal experience and the stories I’ve witnessed from friends who had their own hearts disintegrated into red dust.

Producer Cory Spotts engineers the record, having worked with other esteemed Arizona acts including The Maine, The Summer Set, BlessTheFall and Job for a Cowboy.

Within the first few months of their formation, the band opened for celebrated acts such as Emarosa, This Century, Weatherbox and The Rocket Summer. They have since sold out multiple shows.

Vocalist Derek Hackman previously fronted a band called Ezer. Having long had a passion for music, he began writing songs aged 11. Moving house frequently as a child, Derek dealt with long periods of social isolation that fuelled his songwriting. The first time he ever sang live was at his high school graduation – in front of 6000 people. He was so nervous he vomited in the bathroom only minutes prior to going up on stage.

Derek is also a published poet and has a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Making up the band’s other members include drummer Brandon (who also handles a lot of the photography), guitarist Nick (who happens to also be an award-winning coffee roaster) and bassist Jacob (who is Columbian and fluent in Spanish).

A promo video for the album’s opening track ‘Let Love go’ is available here:

There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins is out April 8th.

Electic Litany – New Album – ‘Enduring Days You Will Overcome’

10458156_10152412901495823_360529774148039504_n

Influenced by the new wave likes of The Cure and Joy Division, but with a twisted contemporary approach, Electric Litany have created a timeless album against the odds. Working on a shoestring budget and helped over the line by fans, the LP is a triumph. To the band the music represents both the struggle as a band to produce the release, as well as the oppression of society by the political elite.

You can get a feel for the album from the track ‘Silence’:

Berenice Scott bewitches with piano-pop single ‘Walls Cave in’

Track taken from POLARITY album out June 8th

Berenice Scott Torso Shot

Born in Paris, France but now based in London, Berenice Scott is the talented product of a truly bohemian upbringing. After travelling the world with artistic parents – a French mother and British father – drinking in a host of musical influences to inform her own writing, her chamber-pop songs are a thoughtful mix of wistfulness and a quiet power.

A professional session musician specialising in the commercial pop world, her independent, improvisational spirit grew from early days as a pianist. Piano teachers would grow frustrated with her love for playing around with structures and learning by ear as opposed to reading music by sight, but in reality Berenice was finding her own way, by feel for the music as opposed to prescribed routes and notes.

With a songwriting style driven by a love of piano, Berenice Scott’s album ‘Polarity’ consistently provides excellent tracks from top to tail, including breath-taking singles such as ‘Walls Cave In’ – a beautifully building ballad which calls to mind the blended subtleties and pop sensibilities of Sarah McLachlan  and Vanessa Carlton:

Video –

The album ‘Polarity’ is a gorgeous collection, created from a range of experiences, lyrically and musically matched to the emotions felt by Berenice Scott throughout her life. It’s a life which has evolved from growing up in a world of artistic genius, her parents counting Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood as their friends and contemporaries and sharing holidays with icons such as Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall.

It was destined that Berenice would follow a creative path, and did so with her innate musical talent. It’s a path which has seen her support Pink’s funhouse tour in a previous role as keys player for the band Raygun, as well as taking on support slots for Paul Weller and The Script.

‘Walls Cave In’ will be available on May 25th, followed by album ‘Polarity’ which will be available on June 8th.
