Musically, Reading has a lot going for it at the moment. From the legendary Reading Festival to individual bands like Sundara Karma, The Amazons and Fickle Friends. Another indie group to come out of Reading is indie-pop duo Ciircus Street (yes it’s with two i’s to show the band’s cool indie side). Consisting of Sam Brett (guitar and vocals) and Jim Crowder (vocals), their upcoming single is called ‘Mouth Like That’ to be released the 14th July, which is excitingly close, with a must-watch music video following on the 28th July.
A perfect debut track, with an unforgettable, in your-face start, with gruff vocals and raw guitar riffs repeating the track title “mouth like that”. The anger and attitude in the lyrics are based on the notion of karma, lies and spreading rumours. This track holds a lot of texture, from the messy beginning to a much smoother verse directly after the opening. Both voices are contrasting but work together, which is why they have been described as a mixture of salt and honey in the past. I’m pretty sure I could hear Ed Sheeran’s voice somewhere in the chorus to be honest, and that is not a bad thing as Ed Sheeran is one of their inspirations alongside Jack Johnson and James Morrison. The addition of a raw southern/London accent, in both guy’s voices add charm and character to each verse and very word spoken.
If you can’t wait to 14th July to hear the track, here’s a link to an acoustic version:
